Canceled 1.000 weddings in Ohrid and Struga

Most of the approx 600 weddings that were supposed to take place only in Struga this summer have been canceled or put on hold. Everyone's plans are plagued by the coronavirus pandemic. Hoteliers and restaurants are already facing huge financial losses. It will also be difficult to arrange a wedding in such conditions with strict distance measures, ban on grouping and wearing masks.
"You know what our customs are, when all the bride and groom begin to love them for their welcome and gifts. We need to think about how to proceed and how to change those customs. With these conditions given, all weddings are canceled… ", said Krste Blazeski-hotelier from Struga.

Hotel workers say many weddings are rescheduled for next year, because most of them are related to the arrival of emigrants in their homeland.

"… This is a great pity for our businesses because economically as a country we are very dependent on our migrant workers and if they are not there this summer will be difficult for us and the entire economy of Macedonia.", said Visar Ljumani, hotel manager.

Other businesses are directly affected by this situation. Musicians are among the most affected by the halted business.

"Is the state even thinking about that?"? Is there a plan for us? Who will we sing and play to…?“, said Igor Bezanoski - President of the Association of Musicians

The situation is similar in Ohrid, where approx 400 weddings, but have already been canceled. Otherwise, The government has not yet published the protocols for weddings and other festivities if anyone decides to take such a step this summer..
